# Burundi passport to United Kingdom: eVisa

## Evidence timeline

- **July 1, 2026 — United Kingdom visa-national ordinary passports: digitally issued Standard Visitor visa** (eVisa)
  The exact current visa-national ordinary-passport cohort still needs individual entry clearance before travel, but every successful new application is now issued as an eVisa rather than a passport vignette.
  - The policy covers the current Visa National List's ordinary-passport Standard Visitor baseline. Its document-specific exceptions, organised school parties, airside transit and special or non-national travel documents are not flattened into the nationality rows.
  - A visa remains individually adjudicated before travel. Applicants apply online, pay the fee, provide supporting documents and normally attend a visa application centre to provide fingerprints and a photograph; electronic issuance does not make this an ETA or visa-free route.
  - UKVI stopped issuing new visa vignette stickers on 1 July 2026. Successful applicants access the eVisa through a UKVI account and must link the passport or accepted travel document used for travel.
  - A person whose passport or travel document is not accepted by the Home Office may receive a physical Form for Accompanying an eVisa. The form enables travel with the linked eVisa and does not turn the visa into a vignette-issued route.
  - Physical vignettes issued before the cutover remain valid until their individual expiry. The 25 February 2026 partial rollout is retained as historical context but is not assigned by nationality because the official announcement defined only most visitor applicants.
  - Marriage or civil-partnership visits, longer stays, work, study, residence, settlement, transit and final border admission remain outside this ordinary short-visitor classification.

- **Current official route — United Kingdom visa-national ordinary passports required physical or mixed-format entry clearance** (Visa required)
  Before the complete digital cutover, these ordinary-passport nationalities required a Standard Visitor visa or other appropriate entry clearance before travel without an exhaustive all-passport eVisa rule.
  - Document-specific exceptions, airside transit, organised school parties, and temporary transition rules are not flattened into this ordinary visitor policy.
  - HKSAR and Macao SAR passports and qualifying Taiwan ID-number passports are modelled through ETA instead.
  - The official process required an online application before travel and a visa application-centre appointment. From 25 February 2026 most visitor applicants received eVisas, but the published material did not define that partial nationality cohort exhaustively.
  - This conservative historical policy ends on 30 June 2026. A separate current policy records the exhaustive eVisa-only route from 1 July 2026.
  - Marriage or civil-partnership visits and stays over six months can require different entry clearance.

## How to apply

The Home Office normally states three weeks after the online application, identity proof and document submission, although individual cases can take longer.

1. Confirm that the passport is visa-national and that Standard Visitor is the correct route.
2. Apply online before travel, pay the fee and submit the required supporting evidence.
3. Attend the instructed visa application-centre appointment to provide the passport, fingerprints and photograph.
4. After approval, link the travel document to the UKVI account, check the eVisa and travel only while the permission is valid.
