- **Current official route — HKSAR passports are visa-exempt in the EU and Schengen area** (Visa-free)
  Regulation (EU) 2018/1806 exempts Hong Kong SAR passport holders from short-stay visa requirements across the covered EU and Schengen destinations.
  - Only holders of a Hong Kong Special Administrative Region passport are covered.
  - Stays may not exceed 90 days in any 180-day period.
  - Ireland applies its own visa policy and is not covered by this policy.
  - Cyprus is covered through the EU regulation but is not yet part of the border-control-free Schengen area.
