## Evidence timeline

- **Current official route — ECOWAS and AES-transition ordinary passports: Côte d’Ivoire short-visit visa exemption** (Visa-free)
The current ECOWAS roster identifies Côte d’Ivoire and eleven foreign current Member States. The ECOWAS Protocol provides their citizens visa-free entry for up to 90 days. Burkina Faso, Mali and Niger are no longer roster members, but ECOWAS's still-current withdrawal directive expressly continues their visa-free movement rights until further notice. This is a visa exemption, not an airport visa or electronic-visa route.
  - The Protocol requires a valid travel document and international health certificate, requires entry through an official point, and sets a 90-day visitor limit; a longer stay needs permission from the competent authority.
  - A Member State may refuse admission to a Community citizen classed as an inadmissible immigrant under its laws. Border, health, identity, security and individual-admissibility controls therefore remain applicable.
  - The current roster excludes BF, ML and NE following their 29 January 2025 withdrawal. ECOWAS nevertheless directs relevant authorities to continue their citizens' visa-free movement rights until further notice. Their ordinary-passport treatment is conditional on the official transition arrangement, including recognition of national passports or identity cards bearing the ECOWAS logo; it must be rechecked if ECOWAS announces final future-relation modalities.
  - This policy does not normalize residence, employment, diplomatic, official, service, UN laissez-passer, refugee, special-document, transit or event-specific access.
