How this access rule is documented

  1. Visa-free

Bermuda: Hong Kong SAR and Macao SAR visitor exceptions

The 2026 Order expressly incorporates UK-rule exceptions for its starred Chinese-nationality entry. The specified Hong Kong SAR and Macao SAR passports retain ordinary visitor exemption.

    • Only the specified SAR-issued passports are covered; this does not exempt mainland Chinese passports or adopt the UK's complete visa regime.
    • The Act's bona fide visitor, departure-ticket and admission conditions apply. Work, residence, marriage and special-document routes are separate.
    • Section 28 permits six months or 180 days, whichever is greater, within 12 months, but Immigration describes its operational allowance as cumulative 180 days. Confirm the individual permitted stay with Immigration; months are not converted to days here.
  2. Through Visa-free

Bermuda: unlisted nationals visa-free for bona fide short visits (historical)

Section 28 of the Bermuda Immigration and Protection Act removes the need for specific permission for a bona fide visitor who fulfils its conditions. Order No. 2 of 2025 supplies the exhaustive nationality exception by prohibiting only the named Schedule nationals. The resulting unlisted ordinary-passport baseline is visa-free, not an ETA, eVisa or visa-on-arrival route.

    • This is limited to a bona fide ordinary-passport short visitor whose nationality is not in the current Order No. 2 Schedule; it does not cover special passports, residence, work, study, crew, transit, or individual permission routes.
    • Hong Kong SAR and Macao SAR passport rows follow the Order's express asterisk incorporation: the current UK Immigration Rules exempt PRC nationals holding those specific passports from the visa-national rule.
    • At landing and throughout the visit, the visitor must not be an exceptionable person and must hold a passenger ticket for departure to a country where the visitor has a right of entry.
    • The unrestricted period is six months or 180 days, whichever is greater, within a 12-month period, but the Minister may shorten or end it by written notice.
    • This statutory exemption from specific permission does not guarantee admission; other Immigration Act requirements and final border assessment remain applicable.
