    Guam and Northern Mariana Islands: G-CNMI electronic travel authorization

    The live CBP G-CNMI portal names this 12-passport cohort and requires a G-CNMI ETA for business or pleasure visits of 45 days or less.

    • The authorization is for Guam or CNMI only, for business or pleasure up to 45 days; it is not an ESTA or a visa and does not create access to other U.S. destinations.
    • Hong Kong requires an HKSAR passport and Hong Kong identification card. Taiwan eligibility is subject to the portal's Taiwan-specific conditions.
    • The State Department VWP page still refers to Form I-736 for this program; the current CBP G-CNMI portal's electronic authorization controls this normalized ETA route.
    • Passport, purpose, admissibility, onward-travel, prior-travel, security, residence, work, crew, transit, diplomatic/official and special-document conditions remain material.

    Guam and CNMI: G-CNMI Visa Waiver Program electronic travel authorization

    Current 8 CFR 212.1(q) names these ten countries plus the qualifying Hong Kong and Taiwan routes and requires a CBP electronic travel authorization before embarkation. It is therefore normalized as eta, not visa_free.

    • For travel on or after 29 November 2024, receive CBP G-CNMI travel authorization before embarking, then request admission for business or pleasure in Guam or CNMI for no more than 45 days.
    • A valid ICAO-compliant machine-readable passport, I-94, qualifying carrier and round-trip ticket are required. Hong Kong requires an HKSAR or BN(O) passport plus Hong Kong ID; Taiwan requires Taiwan residence, prescribed itinerary, Taiwan ID and passport/re-entry permit.
    • The authorization is neither a visa nor a determination of admissibility. It does not permit travel beyond Guam/CNMI, extension or change of status; work, residence, credit study, transit, crew, parole, diplomatic, official and special-document cases remain separate.
    • The State Department's general VWP page still mentions paper Form I-736, while current 8 CFR and the live CBP service require electronic authorization; this mapping follows the controlling regulation and operational portal.
