    China ordinary passports: VIVIS visa exemption

    MRE's current Zurich consular guidance says Chinese ordinary passport holders have been exempt from VIVIS since 11 May 2026 for the specified short-visit purposes.

    • The MRE guidance limits the exemption to multiple-entry tourism, business, transit, artistic, or sports visits, for at most 30 days in one year.
    • Longer stays and other purposes require the appropriate physical visa under the MRE guidance.
    • This applies to an ordinary Chinese passport; it does not establish treatment of a PRC Travel Document, Hong Kong SAR passport, Macao SAR passport, Taiwan passport, diplomatic passport, official passport, or another special document.
    • The consular page's country-specific online filing note does not establish a nationality-wide eVisa category for this normalized visitor classification.
