  1. Visa-free

    EU ordinary passports: visa-free short visitor entry

    Gibraltar's current treaty-entry guidance applies the EU free-movement regime to Union citizens. These ordinary passports have a visa-free short-visitor route through Gibraltar's dual Gibraltar/Schengen controls.

    • Use a valid passport or national identity card as applicable; this is not a Gibraltar or UK citizenship classification.
    • The Gibraltar airport route has dual Gibraltar and Schengen immigration checks. Residence, family-member, work, study, crew, diplomatic, official, special-document and individual-admission rules are not normalized into this ordinary-passport visitor baseline.
    • ETIAS is not operating on the research date. No separate nationality-wide Gibraltar eVisa, ETA or visa-on-arrival route is established for this cohort.

    EEA/Swiss ordinary passports: visa-free short visitor entry

    Icelandic, Liechtenstein, Norwegian and Swiss ordinary passports have the equivalent-free-movement visitor route applied at Gibraltar's Schengen-aligned external border.

    • Carry the valid passport or identity document required for the applicable free-movement route. Gibraltar remains a separate jurisdiction and operates dual Gibraltar/Schengen controls at the airport.
    • This does not normalize residence, family-member, paid-activity, special-document or individual-admission treatment. ETIAS is not operating on the research date.

    Named visa-exempt third-country ordinary passports: visa-free short visitor entry

    These ordinary-passport jurisdictions are named in Gibraltar's 15 July 2026 visa-exempt appendix and have a visa-free short-visitor route, subject to the simultaneous Schengen entry conditions at Gibraltar's external border.

    • The short stay is no more than 90 days in any 180 days, calculated with time in Gibraltar and the Schengen Area. A valid travel document, purpose/conditions of stay, means and other admission checks remain required.
    • Biometric passports are required for AL, BA, GE, MD, ME, MK, RS, UA and XK. Taiwan requires a passport with an identity-card number; HK and MO require their named SAR passports. Serbian Coordination Directorate passports remain subject to the current Regulation's biometric condition.
    • A Gibraltar or Schengen residence document, a UK visa or UK immigration status, minor/parental arrangements, crew/seafarer identity documents, refugee/stateless documents, diplomatic/official/service passports and paid activity are separate document- or purpose-conditioned routes, not this ordinary-passport nationality rule.
    • ETIAS is not operating on the research date. No separate nationality-wide Gibraltar eVisa, ETA or visa-on-arrival route is established.

    Full British-citizen ordinary passports: visa-free short visitor entry

    Current UK government Gibraltar guidance states that British nationals on a full British-citizen passport do not need a visa for a short visit.

    • This is limited to a full British-citizen passport, as expressly scoped by the UK source; it does not establish treatment for every other British nationality or Gibraltar identity-card holder.
    • The limit is 90 days in any 180 days, including time in Gibraltar and the Schengen Area. Passport validity, dual controls, EES where applicable and ordinary admission checks remain relevant.
    • This source establishes visa-free entry only; it does not establish a Gibraltar electronic-issuance or ETA route for this visitor cohort.

    Schengen advance-visa-required ordinary passports: visitor entry

    These ordinary passports require a Schengen short-stay visa before Gibraltar entry. This includes Annex I passports and Nauru, whose Annex II waiver remains conditional. Gibraltar accepts a Schengen short-stay visa; if Gibraltar is the main destination, Spain is the competent issuing Schengen State.

    • This is an advance Schengen short-stay visa requirement, not a UK visitor visa. The reviewed primary sources do not establish a general Gibraltar electronic-issuance, UK-ETA or ordinary visa-on-arrival alternative for this cohort; Gibraltar's prior UK visa application platforms ceased operating on 8 July 2026.
    • Gibraltar recognises Schengen short-stay visas. Where Gibraltar is the main destination, Spain issues the Schengen visa; otherwise competence follows the applicable Schengen rules.
    • The ordinary visitor stay is no more than 90 days in any 180 days including time in Gibraltar and the Schengen Area. Passport validity, purpose, means, security and other admission conditions remain applicable.
    • A Schengen residence document, Gibraltar residence/identity card, UK status, civilian sea-crew identity document, family status, paid activity, minor, refugee/stateless or special passport arrangement is not flattened into this nationality baseline.
