One group agreement or destination policy can support many passport relationships. Dates are recorded only when an official source establishes them.

    Tanzanian citizens: outside foreign-visitor visa regime

    The Immigration Department's current entry guidance distinguishes Tanzanian citizens from foreign nationals subject to visa or visa-on-arrival procedures. The same-country ordinary-passport pair is therefore recorded as citizenship rather than a foreign visitor visa status.

    • All travellers must use designated formal entry points, appear to an immigration officer, complete the arrival declaration and produce a passport or other acceptable document.
    • This does not decide citizenship acquisition, dual nationality, passport validity, residence, customs, health, security, criminal process or individual border formalities.

    Named ordinary passports: Tanzania visa-free visitors

    The 2016 Visa Regulations' Third Schedule directly names 44 of this cohort as not requiring a visa. Current eVisa group guidance directly supports the two additional EAC/SADC entries (CD and ZW); the separate detailed eVisa-list URL was unavailable on re-review, so no wider unlisted complement is inferred.

    • This policy applies only to the directly supported ordinary-passport cohort. It does not establish a common stay limit, work entitlement, residence right, transit rule or special-document exemption.
    • The current eVisa guide's broad EAC/SADC/Commonwealth wording conflicts with its own detailed VOA/referral categories and with portions of the 2016 schedules. The current detailed visa-free endpoint returned a runtime error on re-review. The 44 statutory Third-Schedule codes are retained; CD and ZW are the only additional catalog codes directly supported by the current EAC/SADC wording and not contradicted by a current named route. Burundi and South Sudan remain unresolved because they are omitted from the statutory schedule and all current detailed categories despite the EAC prose.
    • All entry remains through designated points with a passport or other acceptable document, arrival declaration, and possible onward-travel, funds and current health/yellow-fever documentation. The Immigration Officer retains admission authority.

    Named ordinary passports: Tanzania ordinary or multiple visa on arrival

    The current official Immigration guideline expressly gives this named cohort both online and visa-on-arrival facilities. Because the same visitor visa can be issued at an official entry point, the easiest supported baseline is visa_on_arrival, not evisa.

    • The direct named schedule grants both online and on-arrival facilities. It does not make an online application mandatory, so this is not normalized as evisa. Issuance is only at an official designated entry point, not an assertion that every port offers an arrival visa.
    • An ordinary tourist visa is stated to cost USD 50 and be valid up to 90 days. United States passport holders visiting for tourism are instead required to use the USD 100 multiple visa, even for a single entry; the guide nevertheless includes the United States in the named on-arrival cohort.
    • The portal's raw lists overlap: Ghana, Saint Lucia and Saint Vincent are also on the live visa-free schedule, so their direct no-visa route prevails; Burkina Faso and Guinea appear in the raw VOA list but are referral cases, so the referral eVisa policy prevails. These codes are omitted from this VOA policy.
    • Ordinary visa holders may not work or conduct business. Transit, work, residence, business-only, diplomatic, official, service, refugee/stateless, special-document and Zanzibar-specific operating rules are not decided by this policy. Entry remains subject to documents, health, funds/onward travel and officer discretion.

    Referral ordinary passports: Tanzania advance electronic visa approval

    Tanzania Immigration's current referral list prohibits this cohort from using visa on arrival without special Commissioner-General permission and requires an online application approved before travel. The online grant notice makes the ordinary baseline evisa.

    • Referral nationals must apply online and wait for approval before starting travel, unless they obtain special approval from the Commissioner General of Immigration. They are advised to apply at least two months before travel and supply local-host/contact and invitation or visa-application-letter information where available.
    • This policy is evisa because the official portal processes the online application and lets approved applicants download the Visa Grant Notice. It does not turn the exceptional Commissioner's permission into a nationality-wide VOA route.
    • The direct referral list takes precedence over the raw VOA schedule's Burkina Faso and Guinea entries. Refugee and stateless applicants also cannot use VOA but are document/status categories, not ordinary-passport nationality policies.
    • Ordinary visitor approval does not authorize work or business and remains subject to entry documents, designated ports, health/yellow-fever requirements, funds/onward evidence, security and immigration-officer discretion.

    Taiwan ordinary passports: named visa-on-arrival short visits

    Taiwan MOFA BOCA's current outbound schedule identifies these destinations as issuing visas at arrival to Taiwanese travellers, including stated pre-clearance routes.

    • BY, IR and UZ require the schedule's stated pre-clearance before a visa is issued on arrival; online pre-clearance followed by border issuance is normalized as visa_on_arrival.
    • CI requires online registration, fee payment and an emailed approval code before the visa is issued at Abidjan airport; it is therefore arrival issuance, not an eVisa under this taxonomy.
    • LR: apply online, then present the approval QR code at Roberts International Airport for biometric collection and the visa sticker. The Liberia Immigration Service directs applicants in a country with a Liberian embassy to that mission instead.
    • This does not establish work, residence, non-visitor, transit-only, special-document, carrier, health, funds or final-admission treatment.

    Current EAC immigration guidance establishes visa-free entry for citizens of one Partner State into another; Burundi, the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Tanzania are current Partner States.

    • Applies to an ordinary Burundian passport holder travelling for a short visitor stay under the EAC Partner-State visa-free entry rule.
    • Work, residence, study, special passes, diplomatic or official documents, border operations, carrier requirements and final admission remain outside this classification.

    Tanzania Immigration's current named schedule includes the Dominican Republic in the cohort eligible for either online processing or a visa at an official entry point.

    • Applies to an ordinary Dominican passport holder travelling as a short visitor.
    • The official guidance expressly permits either online processing or a visa on arrival; this is normalized as visa_on_arrival because issuance at an official entry point is directly available.
    • The guide says visa on arrival is available at an official entry point and separately requires six-month passport validity and a return ticket.

    Tanzania Immigration's current guide says EAC Member State nationals do not require a visa, and the current EAC site identifies South Sudan and Tanzania as Partner States.

    Nicaraguan ordinary passports: Tanzania visitor visa on arrival

    Tanzania's operative visa controls expressly require a visa without prior approval for countries outside the current statutory visa-free schedule; the current schedule does not contain Nicaragua. The statutes permit issuance at designated entry points, and current Immigration guidance confirms that arrival issuance is a route for obtaining a Tanzanian visa.

    • Applies to an ordinary Nicaraguan passport holder travelling as a short visitor, not to Tanzanian citizens, dual-citizenship exceptions, diplomatic, service, official, refugee, stateless, residence, work, business, transit or other special-document cases.
    • The visa requirement follows the statutory rule for a country outside the replacement Third Schedule, rather than an inference from a portal or a non-exhaustive web list. Nicaragua is not a country in that complete legal schedule.
    • Nicaragua is likewise absent from the complete statutory referral schedule, which is the only category requiring Commissioner-General approval; the 2025 amendment alters that schedule only by deleting Somaliland.
    • The statutory entry-point issuing station and current Immigration arrival route support visa-on-arrival normalization. Passport validity, return/onward travel, funds, health requirements, application requirements and final Immigration Officer admission remain applicable.
