    United Kingdom ETA nationalities from April 2025

    These European passport holders require an ETA for qualifying short visitor travel to the United Kingdom.

    • Irish citizens are outside this cohort, and Vatican City has separate Holy See document exceptions.
    • The route covers qualifying visitor stays up to six months and approval does not guarantee entry.
    • Valid UK permission, specified British statuses, and lawful Irish residence with Common Travel Area travel can remove the ETA requirement.
    • Airside transit and travel through border control have separate rules.

    • Taiwan requires a passport containing the identification-card number; Hong Kong and Macao require the respective SAR passports.
    • The route covers qualifying visitor stays up to six months and approval does not guarantee entry.
    • Valid UK permission, specified British statuses, and lawful Irish residence with Common Travel Area travel can remove the ETA requirement.
    • Airside transit and travel through border control have separate rules.

    Irish citizens generally do not require leave, an ETA, or a visa to enter or remain in the United Kingdom.

    • The rule applies to Irish citizens rather than every traveller from Ireland or every Irish-issued document.
    • Deportation orders, exclusion decisions, and specified international travel bans are exceptions.

    These Gulf passport holders require an ETA for qualifying short visitor travel to the United Kingdom.

    • Qatar has required ETA for travel from 15 November 2023; the other listed nationalities from 22 February 2024.
    • The route covers qualifying visitor stays up to six months and does not itself grant entry.
    • Valid UK permission, specified British statuses, and lawful Irish residence with Common Travel Area travel can remove the ETA requirement.

    United Kingdom visa-national ordinary passports require entry clearance

    These ordinary-passport nationalities require a Standard Visitor visa or other appropriate entry clearance before travel.

    • Document-specific exceptions, airside transit, organised school parties, and temporary transition rules are not flattened into this ordinary visitor policy.
    • HKSAR and Macao SAR passports and qualifying Taiwan ID-number passports are modelled through ETA instead.
    • The official process requires an online application before travel and a visa application-centre appointment; it is not a universal eVisa route.
    • Marriage or civil-partnership visits and stays over six months can require different entry clearance.
