    Sierra Leone: current ECOWAS ordinary passports — visa-free entry

    The ECOWAS Free Movement Protocol establishes visa-free entry for a Community citizen visiting another Member State for up to 90 days. The current ECOWAS roster maps its eleven foreign Member States; the eVisa terms also exclude all ECOWAS members from the electronic service.

    • Article 3 requires a valid travel document and international health certificate and gives a maximum 90-day stay. Immigration retains admissibility and public-order controls under the Protocol.
    • The current twelve-State roster excludes Burkina Faso, Mali and Niger following their withdrawal; the separately documented transitional treatment applies to all three below.
    • This policy does not decide residence, work, transit, crew, diplomatic, official, service, special documents, individual admissibility or any bilateral arrangement.

    Current French government guidance says French nationals remain able to obtain a visa on arrival at Freetown airport while Sierra Leone's online visa system is not yet fully operational.

    Although Burkina Faso, Mali and Niger are no longer shown on ECOWAS’s current twelve-State roster, ECOWAS’s withdrawal transition instruction requires Member-State authorities to continue visa-free movement for citizens of all three until further notice. Sierra Leone is an ECOWAS Member State.

    • This is a temporary ECOWAS transition, not a current membership classification. It remains subject to a contrary later notice, ordinary admission controls, travel-document and health requirements.
