One group agreement or destination policy can support many passport relationships. Dates are recorded only when an official source establishes them.

  1. Visa-free

    Twelve nationalities: Resolution 229 visa exemption

    The current Resolution 229 policy exempts these nationals from visas for up to 45 days from entry, regardless of passport type, subject to legal entry conditions.

    • Applies to Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Czechia, Hungary, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Poland, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, and Switzerland, regardless of passport type.
    • Maximum stay is 45 days from entry and remains subject to Vietnam’s legal entry conditions. The current MOFA table states unilateral-exemption entrants need a passport valid at least six months and at least 30 days outside Viet Nam since their last departure.
    • This current 2025-2028 resolution supersedes the expired 2025 Poland/Czechia/Switzerland package-tour pilot for the same ordinary passports; do not retain the expired tour-only condition.
    • Work, residence, overseas-Vietnamese, diplomatic/official, transit, crew, and individual security/admissibility rules remain separate.

    Twelve nationalities: Resolution 44 unilateral visa exemption

    The current Resolution 44 policy exempts these nationals from visas for a 45-day stay, regardless of passport type or entry purpose.

    • Applies to Germany, France, Italy, Spain, the United Kingdom, Russia, Japan, South Korea, Denmark, Sweden, Norway, and Finland, regardless of passport type and entry purpose.
    • Requires full compliance with Vietnam’s legal entry conditions. The current MOFA table states unilateral-exemption entrants need a passport valid at least six months and at least 30 days outside Viet Nam since their last departure.
    • British National (Overseas) passport holders are expressly excluded by the MOFA table; this ordinary UK-passport policy does not cover BNO or other special British documents.
    • Work, residence, overseas-Vietnamese, diplomatic/official, transit, crew, and individual security/admissibility rules remain separate.

    Belarus ordinary passports: reciprocal visa exemption

    Belarus ordinary-passport holders are visa-exempt for up to 30 days per stay, capped at 90 days in a calendar year.

    • The current MOFA table records 30 days for all passport types and caps ordinary-passport stay at 90 days in a calendar year.
    • The ordinary-passport agreement is distinct from diplomatic/official rules; purpose, work, residence, security, and admission limitations remain governed by Vietnamese law.

    Brunei ordinary-passport holders are visa-exempt for stays up to 14 days.

    • The current MOFA table distinguishes 14 days for ordinary Brunei passports from 30 days for diplomatic and official passports.
    • Does not establish work, residence, diplomatic/official, transit, crew, special-document, security, or individual-admission rights.

    Ten ordinary passports: bilateral short-stay visa exemptions

    These current bilateral instruments give ordinary-passport holders short-stay visa exemption, with duration and purpose conditions varying by nationality.

    • Cambodia, Indonesia, Kyrgyzstan, Laos, Malaysia, Mongolia, Myanmar, Singapore, and Thailand have 30-day ordinary-passport routes; Kazakhstan is 30 days per entry, capped at 90 days in each 180-day period.
    • The current MOFA instrument schedule records: Cambodia effective 5 December 2008 (amended 1 January 2010); Indonesia 4 December 2003; Kazakhstan 25 May 2024; Laos 1 July 2004; Malaysia 25 November 2001; Myanmar 26 October 2013 (amended 1 January 2020); Mongolia 6 March 2024; Singapore 1 December 2003; and Thailand 9 July 2000. It identifies Kyrgyzstan as a successor arrangement with the former Soviet agreement, without printing an effective date.
    • Cambodia, Indonesia, Kazakhstan, Laos, Mongolia, Myanmar, and Singapore require at least six months' passport validity. Mongolia, Myanmar, and Singapore exclude income-earning activity; Myanmar also excludes other commercial activity. Malaysia is limited to the listed short-visit purposes; Laos and Indonesia have separate extension/residence rules.
    • The MOFA table separately records ordinary-passport periods for these bilateral arrangements. Do not generalize diplomatic, official, service, special, crew, ASEAN-official-event, residence, or border-pass rows to ordinary visitor passports.

    Chile and Panama ordinary-passport holders are visa-exempt for stays up to 90 days when entry is not for income-earning activity.

    Other foreign ordinary passports: all-nationalities eVisa

    Every other catalog foreign ordinary-passport code can use Vietnam’s nationality-wide electronic-visa route; it is normalized as evisa.

    • Available to foreigners outside Viet Nam holding a valid passport or international travel document. The Article 8 visa-class and Article 16 invitation/guarantee rules, including their personal, delegation, diplomatic, residence, and purpose distinctions, remain separate procedures rather than nationality-wide ordinary-passport exclusions.
    • Valid for at most 90 days, for single or multiple entry. The Ministry of Public Security states that application, issuance, receipt, printing, and fee payment are electronic; an issued eVisa can be printed without collecting a visa at a mission or border gate.
    • Use only Government-designated international air, land, or sea border gates. The Government Portal confirms the official site publishes the eVisa border-gate list; the pre-arrival declaration is not an ETA or visa-exemption substitute.
    • Entry and stay remain conditioned on a valid travel document, the stated entry purpose, no suspension/prohibition from entry, and border-control admission. Accommodation providers must make temporary-residence declarations; work, residence, diplomatic/official, crew, border-pass, transit and overseas-Vietnamese certificate routes are distinct.
